Summer University Sea & Education: an interdisciplinary training for all secondary school teachers
Initiated by the Labex Mer in close collaboration with the UBO, Ifremer and Océanopolis, the Sea & Education Summer University was born out of the desire to participate in the continuing education of secondary school teachers, to encourage links between high schools and universities while contributing to a better visibility of marine and coastal sciences in Brittany.
The Sea & Education Summer School is an opportunity to create a moment of exchange between teachers and scientists from various specialities. Oceanic, environmental and technological challenges will be at the heart of this new edition.
Taking place in the last week of August just before the start of the school year, this summer university has several objectives:
- To provide participants with an overview of current research in marine and coastal sciences
- To offer teachers the opportunity to update their knowledge of science-society issues related to the sea and the coastline
- To present scientific, technical and documentary tools that these teachers can use in class
- To raise awareness of the complexity of these subjects
- To allow teachers to experiment with pedagogical tools and to open a space for discussion on how to reinvest them at school
- To provide secondary school teachers with an up-close-and-personal experience at the heart of today’s science
A three-step training course
Step 1: a day of problematization workshops, to introduce the general theme and place it in its societal context
Step 2: thematic courses, to enable teachers to explore in greater depth the concepts addressed during the first problematization workshops
Step 3: a day dedicated to reflection on ideas for “pedagogical transpositions
At the time of registration, participants will be able to choose the thematic path they wish to follow from among the three following thematic paths:
- Thematic 1: In the heart of the abyss
- Thematic 2: From one pole to the other
- Thematic 3: In the tropics
Each course will accommodate approximately 20 people.
Registration deadline: 15 July 2021
