The Division of Ocean Prediction and Application (OPA) of the CMCC Foundation is offering a postdoc or an opportunity to a junior scientist for a position in numerical modeller on estuarine dynamics to support the research and the ocean modelling activities.

Host organisation

The CMCC Foundation is a scientific research centre on climate change and its interactions with the environment, the society, the world of business and policy makers. Their work aims to stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment and develop strategies for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change.

The CMCC Foundation is committed to inform and facilitate the dialogue between scientists, decision makers and the general public to support decisions and actions for the benefit of society and the environment. It is also committed to encourage discipline convergence to spur new and creative ideas and to ensure that environmental observations, analyses, predictions and services most effectively meet the needs of society.

Position description

The activities will be focused both on research developments and transition to the operational forecasting activities of the OPA division. The duties will also include processing and interpreting simulation-based and observational data sets.

The primary purpose for this position is to take on a pivotal role in implementing and testing a coupled river-sea forecasting system in areas selected within the framework of the supporting project and other collaborations, with a focus on integrating the ocean and the hydrological modelling components. A gained experience with the finite difference numerical models (e.g. hydrodynamics NEMO and hydrology WRF-Hydro), and/or the unstructured grid models for the ocean (e.g. SHYFEM, FVCOM, SCHISM) are required.

The position is under the sponsorship of the projects: Copernicus Marine Environment Monitoring Service (CMEMS) Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea Monitoring and Forecasting Centres; Adriaclim (IT-HR interreg strategic project) and Fish RISE – Remote, Intelligent & Sustainable aquaculturE system for Fish”.
