A permanent position for an engineer in electronics and onboard software/marine instrumentation is available at Ifremer within the Marine Engineering and Instrumentation Department (SIIM), which is responsible for the study and design of marine and underwater instrumental systems.

Position description

Within the SIIM department, the electronics and embedded software/marine instrumentation engineer is positioned in the electronics group, which is specialised in very low power consumption embedded systems. He/she will work under the responsibility of the Head of Department, and in relation with the Head of the Electronics Group and the Project Managers.

The main mission associated with the position is the design and development of very low power embedded electronic systems:

  • (1) in the framework of national projects
  • (2) in the framework of European or international projects e.g. the Argo programme;
  • (3) with academic and industrial partners and stakeholders.

The candidate will work in these areas, applying his/her skills in the field of electronics, onboard software and marine instrumentation. He/she will design and manage the electronic and software developments for the realisation of the instruments, and will be responsible for their qualification. He/she is integrated into a project with multidisciplinary technical skills. He/she participates in architecture or electronic and software design studies. He/she will follow study or subcontracting contracts, in particular with an industrial partner of Ifremer. He/she is an actor in innovation.

Profile and skills

  • Engineer or University graduate in engineering sciences.
  • Electronics/embedded software speciality
  • Experience in underwater instrumentation desired
  • Digital and analogue electronics
  • Microcontroller architecture ;
  • Embedded software (low level/applicative, C language skills) ;
  • Knowledge of instrumentation and sensors;
  • Mastery of standard test and measurement tools:
  • Management of subcontracts with our industrial partners;
  • Ability to manage actions, work packages, projects, or to evolve towards these functions;
  • Good command of written and spoken English.
